Snow Go Away Day 4

Another below freezing night – but not in the single digits. Daytime temps finally got back above freezing. Have I mentioned we almost froze our catookuses off? We’re projected to get more freezing temps tonight, so we’re not quite out of the woods.  But the snow began to thaw today. The trees are quite spectacular catching light with their ice covered limbs and shimmering as though covered with stars. But today they began to melt a bit. I forbade our son from going out in the woods for fear more limbs could fall on him or icicles. He wasn’t too happy about it. Turns out a couple days ago he was trying to crawl across our partially frozen pond. That Southern boy didn’t realize just how dangerous that could have been!  🤦‍♀️

Still no running water to speak of.  There’s a tiny dribble coming out of the faucet, so we’re still relying on bathtub water to flush toilets & the rainwater we collected to keep the chickens hydrated & wash dishes. It’s a surreal feeling turning on the faucet & getting nothing. We take so many things for granted in our lives, and I’m hoping this experience will help me appreciate the little things a bit more. I called to check on the water situation, and the guy at Hudson Water told us that their wells are producing again since the power was back on, but the pressure was low.  We live a bit up hill, so until the pressure builds up more we won’t get much more than that dribble. And with no water pressure, my hair appt that was scheduled a month ago is now cancelled. Boo! I need this gray gone ASAP!

The chickens are still refusing to leave the coop, and I don’t blame them! Since they haven’t foraged since Sunday I took them so old lettuce & carrots we had in the fridge.  They seemed excited about their little snack, and it was funny to watch them try to run around to keep it away from the other hens with nowhere to go.  They’re still laying well, so when other Texans can’t find groceries we are trying to figure out what to do with our abundance of eggs. haha

It wasn’t raining so I checked on the garden, my fruit tree/bushes. They seem to be holding up well, but I don’t know that any of the buds will survive. 🤞🤞 It was still kinda overcast & gloomy out today, so I didn’t stay out much.  Plus I don’t want to get filthy because it’s difficult to get cleaned up.  I haven’t showered since Sunday evening. 🤢

Today was the first day I took the seedlings out to harden them off. I thought we had some upper 30’s weather predicted for this weekend, but...
