Thinning the Greens

I don’t really care for greens, but my mother-in-law loves them. So I planted a few squares for her. They’ve been due for a thinning for a couple weeks, but I always feel like a plant murderer so I hate doing it. But it was desperately needed so I grabbed some scissors & headed to the garden. I was hoping there would be enough thinnings that I could have enough for a small mess of greens for my mil. And I did!

While thinning the greens I was treated to a concert from the local songbirds. There were at least 3 distinctive song patterns, and they were all singing so loud. I felt almost like Snow White. Except since I have a cold I am definitely singing bass these days instead of soprano. Maybe they were as excited at the prospect of rain as I was. My garden does so much better on rain water than city water.

This evening my mother in law cooked up the greens with some bacon & onion. I took a no thank you helping, and they were better than I remembered greens being the last time I tasted them.
